Amharic Level 1

Mondays 5:00pm - 6:30pm

Amharic Level 1 is for very beginners and you will start by learning the Amharic alphabet. This will help you master the correct way to pronounce and write the characters. Then you will be introduced to words and phrases that are common in daily use. You will count in Amharic as well as learn the names of days, months, colors and the like. Simple verb conjugation follows to lay foundation for understanding Amharic sentence structures. Towards the end of the course, you will feel confident to construct simple sentences. There is no book required for the class, as all handouts will be provided by the instructor. Classes meet once a week for 7 consecutive weeks. Amharic Level 2

Mondays 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Program Length: 7 weeks

In Amharic level 2, students will learn simple sentences to describe events or encounters. There will be more emphasis on grammar and tenses. Word formation patterns will be discussed, as well as expressing needs, forming questions, and engaging in conversations. Listening skills will be reviewed and useful tips provided as to how to illicit as much information as possible for an in depth exchange of ideas. Students will attain a level of understanding to generate and express ideas in the Amharic language. There is no book required for the class, as all handouts will be provided by the instructor. About the Instructor: Berhan is a very experienced and highly talented teacher and individual. He takes extra care to ensure that each of his students reach their personal goals in learning Amharic. His teaching style emphasizes in making students fully understand the structure of the language. Students in his class are not just prepared to repeat a few phrases, but to Master the road map and set in motion to work by themselves.
